Abby J. Walker

Abby J. Walker is an award-winning North East writer working across several mediums, including novels, short fiction, screen, theatre, and audio.

Abby Walker is a County Durham writer with a Creative Writing MFA from Manchester Writing School.

 

She was the winner of New Writing North's 2024 Finchale Award for Short Fiction, judged by Fiona Mozley and Rob Doyle, sponsored by Benjamin Myers.

​

She was the winner of BBC's Alfred Bradley Bursary Award for her first script The Counsellor, which will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds in March 2026.

​

She was published in Dead Ink Books' crime anthology Motives Unknown (2025).

​

She was chosen for the 24/25 cohort of The London Library Emerging Writers Programme to work on her debut novel.

​

She was the recipient of a Faber Academy scholarship for their flagship Writing A Novel course, which she completed in March 2025. 

 

In 2025, she was listed for:

The Cheshire Novel Prize, The Stockholm Writers Festival Award, Sid Chaplin Award, Edinburgh Short Story Award, and The Writers & Artists Short Story Competition.

She is represented for her fiction by Rachel Yeoh at Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency. She is currently seeking representation for scriptwriting.
